Terrazzo Restoration for a Bathroom Remodel at Buffalo Seminary

Terrazzo RestorationOur team recently completed a specialized terrazzo restoration as part of a bathroom remodel at Buffalo Seminary, working alongside general contractor LeHigh Construction Group. The project presented several unique challenges, starting with the existing terrazzo flooring. Years of previous patching had left the floor uneven and visually unappealing, particularly at the door threshold where terrazzo was missing entirely.

Due to limited site access, we utilized specialized, smaller equipment to complete the work efficiently without disrupting surrounding areas. Terrazzo polishing is similar to polished concrete, but it requires careful modifications to account for the unique terrazzo properties, particularly the additional heat generated by terrazzo friction. Throughout the process, we applied a concrete hardener and a polished concrete guard to strengthen and protect the surface.

To address the uneven and damaged areas, we installed a polishable overlay at the threshold and used clear grout to fill small holes and pores across the floor, creating a smooth, uniform appearance. The terrazzo was polished to a 400-grit finish. While the repairs remain visible upon close inspection, they blend significantly better with the surrounding floor, resulting in a cleaner, more cohesive look that aligns with the refreshed bathroom space.

Below is a detailed view of the polishable overlay installed at the door threshold to create a smooth, even finish.
